Our curriculum materials are the result of more than forty years involvement in music education, music performance and the arts. The Piano/Keyboard Foundation Method (five volumes) is the result of twenty years research and development and has been used and tested in Australia (Sydney) and the UK (Doncaster, Somerset, Dorset and Bath, North Somerset). The curriculum materials were developed independently in Australia.

Hands on Music offers comprehensive methods which incorporates repertoire, composing, theory, singing, and aural but these element are integrated into an overall 'fun' style of learning. Recently the author, who has lived in the UK for seven years, discovered strong commonality with the Michel Thomas language method. Hands on Music provides a 'success' environment of small, carefully-structured steps where each learner is immersed in the aural and practical process, rather than being dependent on the learning of musical grammar. These unique methods synthesize both classroom (cf. Kodaly/Orff) and private music teaching methodologies (cf. Suzuki/Yamaha). The materials are cross-cultural within English-speaking traditions.

Students proceed through the 12 major and 12 minor keys (using 5 note patterns) and from simple to more difficult rhythms with extensive use of separate right and left hand. The multi-key system associated with the Pace and Bastien methods in the USA is taken as a starting point, but  Hands on Music Foundation Method is a comprehensive curriculum  - five volumes of 250+ pages per volume -  based on extensive research into piano teaching methodologies and learning theories.
